A couple of publication opportunities for writers with some time on their hands over January – compliments of Trish Hopkinson:

The literary magazines/journals listed below offer some form of payment, do not charge submission/reading fees, and have submission deadlines within a few days ie end of January 2017.

This list focuses on poetry submissions, but most lit mags accept prose and art as well. The listings are in order of closest deadlines.

Enchanted Conversation

DEADLINE: January 30, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: Fairy-tale inspired stories and poems only. Read guidelines carefully.

FORMS: Poetry, fiction, essays, script excerpts

PAYMENT: Story pay: $30, Poem pay: $10. US dollars only. Paypal payment only.

Hyperion and Theia

DEADLINE: January 31, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: Current theme is Saturnalia. Read guidelines carefully.

FORMS: fiction, poetry, and art

PAYMENT: Poetry: Up to 100 lines. Paid $0.25USD a line. / Prose: Paid $0.01USD per word. Paypal payment only.

Room

DEADLINE: January 31, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: Writing by women, including trans* persons, gender-variant and two-spirit women, and women of non-binary sexual orientations, on the theme of Migration.

FORMS: poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and art

PAYMENT: “All contributors will be paid upon publication: $50 CAD for one page, $60 for two pages, $90 for three pages, $120 for four pages, $150 for five or more pages.”

Wordrunner eChapbooks

DEADLINE: January 31, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: The theme for this year’s anthology is breaking barriers or pushing against boundaries.

FORMS: poetry, fiction, nonfiction

PAYMENT: “$100 for collections, $5 to $25 for poems, stories and essays published in the annual anthology.”

NonBinary Review

DEADLINE: February 1, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: We are open to submissions which relate to the entirety of Edgar Allan Poe’s work–poetry as well as prose. Submissions which do not tie into the plots or make use of characters/settings from the stories WILL NOT be considered–there needs to be a clear connection to the source material.

PAYMENT: “NonBinary Review pays 1 cent per word for fiction and nonfiction, and a flat fee of $10 per poem and $25 per piece of visual art”
