Harmony Day celebrations were held at the Harry Jensen Centre on Wednesday 21st March – and entertainment and art were the features this year.
Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live and Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
Free lunch, entertainment and art workshop!
Arrival by 12 noon meant a tasty three course Chinese meal:
Entree – Vegetable Spring Rolls with Sweet Chilli Sauce
Main – Deep Fried Lemon Chicken Thigh with Fried Rice and Steamed Bok Choy
Dessert – Creamed Rice with Strawberry Compote
Guests were entertained while dining, and then came a dance to Middle Eastern music performed by Sako Dermenjian, a Syrian guitarist, and Atif Badria, an Arabic percussionist.
Lunch and dancing was followed by learning how to stencil in an art workshop with resident artist Jenna.
During the workshop participants learnt the art of stencilling, drawing and cutting their own individual one layer stencil and spray painted it to create an individual artwork. Each stencil will be added to a collaborative artwork. The theme of the stencils and artwork is HARMONY.
